Gary Cokins is an internationally recognized expert, speaker, and author in performance improvement systems and advanced cost management. Gary began his career as a strategic planner with FMC’s Link-Belt Division and then served as Financial Controller and Operations Manager. In 1981, Gary began his management consulting career first with Deloitte Consulting. Then, with KPMG (1988), he was trained on ABC by Harvard Business School Professors Robert S. Kaplan and Robin Cooper. In 1992, Gary headed the National Cost Management Consulting Services for Electronic Data Systems (EDS) now part of HP. From 1997 until 2013 Gary was in business development with SAS, a leading provider of enterprise performance management and business analytics and intelligence software.
Gary was the lead author of the acclaimed An ABC Manager’s Primer, sponsored by the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA). Gary’s second book, Activity-Based Cost Management: Making it Work, was judged by the Harvard Business School Press as “read this book first.” Gary serves on the board of advisers for organizations including an advisory board with Harvard Business School Professor, Robert S. Kaplan, for the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Mr. Cokins participates and serves on committees including the AICPA, CAM-I, the American Association of Accountants (AAA), the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), the Supply Chain Council, and the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA).
