The Growing Accountant Shortage in the US:
Yes, it is true that the US lacks qualified accountants. According to The Wall Street Journal’s December 2022 article, more than 300,000 U.S. accountants and auditors left their jobs in the past two years.
This counts a 17 percent decline in employed accountants and auditors from a 2019 peak. Studies reveal that the gap between available accounting talent and the demand for their services is widening with time.
The Skills and Expertise of Indian Accountants:
Indian accountants are highly skilled and experienced professionals who offer a number of valuable strengths and capabilities. They are proficient in a wide range of accounting and finance topics, including financial reporting, auditing, taxation, and risk management.
They are also highly adaptable and able to quickly learn new skills. In addition, Indian accountants are culturally diverse, which gives them a unique perspective on business and accounting. These strengths make Indian accountants valuable candidates to address the talent void in the US.
Miles’ MAcc Program: The Solution to the US Accountant Shortage
Indian accountants are valued immensely in the US job market. However, accountants’ journey to the US was not as smooth as techies. Where techies receive a 3-year Optional Practical Training (OPT) for working in the USA after Masters, MS Accounting or Finance on the other hand provided only a 1-year OPT, and F&A was not under a STEM program.
But Miles Education has turned the tables. We have collaborated with US university partners to incorporate Business Analytics into Master’s programs in Finance/Accounting, making them STEM certified. As a result, Miles alumni pursuing this program now enjoy the same 3-year work permit as engineers.
USPs of the program
- Pursue a STEM Master’s in the USA and grab the opportunity to work as a full-time local employee for up to 3 years after graduation
- Under the MAcc scheme, learn from one of the most future-proof accounting curriculums – taxation, auditing, information systems, and technology – to build a career as a professional accountant.
- Weatherhead School of Management houses a career management office that provides services, including career fairs, career analysis, networking events with alumni and employers, mock interviews, job listing, workshops & employer detail sessions.
- Post completion, individuals can work in multiple routes in corporate or public taxation, accounting, financial assessment, management & consulting roles (not necessarily tech-based roles)
